Currently Simpli Skin MD products are available for purchase only from participating physician offices. It is our belief that doctors are the experts in skincare and we hope that our physician-dispensed products help bring more opportunities to cultivate the doctor-patient relationship. Please visit our Locations page to search for the nearest distributor. Some physician offices also offer an online store (prices may be higher due to shipping/handling).

What clinical testing have your products undergone?

Our first product Simpli Day SPF 42 has undergone multiple rigorous independent third party clinical trials. UVB, UVA and water resistance testing confirmed sunscreen performance and led to FDA product approval. Repeat Insult Patch Testing (RIPT) showed the ingredients were hypoallergenic and safe for skin. Comedogenicity testing confirmed our sunscreen doesn’t block pores. Testing for benzene and benzophenone showed that such chemicals were below detectable. Our product is only tested on human volunteers and is cruelty-free.

Are the sunscreen ingredients safe?

Yes. Physical and chemical sunscreen combinations have been safely used for many decades by millions of people worldwide. Our goal at Simpli Skin MD is to develop multifunctional products that you will love and look forward to applying regularly. To this end Simpli Day SPF 42 is a combination physical-chemical sunscreen that gives superior feel and sheer texture. It combines micronized zinc oxide with ensulizole, octocrylene, and octisalate. Each of these ingredients rates favorably on the independent Environmental Working Group’s product database (https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/). Our product is free of oxybenzone and octinoxate - two ingredients questionable to coral reef health. It is also free of formaldehyde, parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

Are your products fragrance-free?

Fragrance mixes like Balsam of Peru and other floral extracts are common allergens. As a Dermatologist-led company, we understand the importance of hypoallergenic ingredients. Simpli Day SPF 42 contains cucumber extract which has a natural scent. However there are no added fragrance mixes.

Are your products “Reef Safe?”

Yes, is the short answer. The long answer is that it depends on who you ask because there is no uniform definition of “Reef Safe.” The vast majority of the world considers sunscreens safe, however on the other end of the spectrum is a case like Maui which recently placed a blanket ban on all non-physical sunscreens. Our products avoid oxybenzone and octinoxate, the two ingredients most implicated in potential reef harm. Simpli Day SPF 42 does contain octocrylene 5%, which is half of the maximum percentage determined to be safe by the FDA. One study showed that corals in a lab were “sensitive” to octocrylene at concentrations ten times higher than levels measured in the ocean (www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/01/190109110048.htm). By comparison if we were to drink ten times more water than we should, we would likely die from severe brain damage.
We believe that public policy should be guided by real world data, and at this time there is insufficient data to show that sunscreens harm coral in applicable real-world settings. Blanket bans on sunscreen ingredients are unscientific and potentially harmful given the safety and efficacy of sunscreens in helping to prevent skin cancer. We believe that continued safety studies into all products is important and we agree that coral reefs need to be preserved. However we believe that global warming is the major threat to coral reefs, not sunscreen.

What skin types can use your products?

Simpli Skin MD products are designed to be used on a wide variety of skin types. Those with particularly sensitive, eczema-prone skin may need to use additional moisturizer. The products should also be avoided on damaged, broken or post-procedure skin. Stop use and ask your doctor for further evaluation if rash or irritation occurs with use.

Simpli Skin MD products are proudly manufactured in the USA. Individual ingredients are sourced in the USA as much as possible, or from high quality international sources when necessary.
